Awards

AALT is please to offer several opportunities for members and those in the library field to receive recognition. The following is a short list of bursaries and awards that AALT offers.

 


Advocacy Award

Intent: To recognize an individual who is a strong supporter and promoter of library technicians and the library technician profession in general.
Eligibility: Individual must be an active advocate of library technicians but not a library technician him/herself.
Form: Nominations shall be made by AALT Board members who support the application with documentation and supporting information.
Deadline: December 31st of each year.

Bernice Neufeld Special Service Award

Intent: To recognize an active AALT member or committee’s outstanding contributions to the Association.
Eligibility: Individual or committee members must be AALT members in good standing.
Form: Nominations shall be made by AALT Board members who support the application with documentation and supporting information.
Deadline: December 31st of each year.

Conference Bursary

Intent: To provide financial assistance to an AALT member who otherwise would not be able to attend the AALT annual conference.
Eligibility: Individual must be an AALT personal member who has been unable to attend conference within the last five years.
Deadline: December 31st of the current year.

Library Technician Award of Excellence

Intent: To recognize the efforts of a Library Technician who has made a major contribution to the library field in Alberta.
Eligibility: Student or graduate of a recognized Library Technician program. Current AALT Board members and Awards Committee members are ineligible. Submission must be accompanied by an outline of the nominee’s specific achievements or contributions and a brief biographical sketch.
Deadline: December 31st of the current year.

Merle Harris Achievement Award

Intent: This award, the highest honour granted by AALT, is given to a Library Technician in recognition for distinguished service in the library and literacy field in Alberta.
Eligibility: Individual must be a student or graduate of a recognized Library Technician program whose contribution should represent an achievement which is outstanding in the field.
Deadline: December 31st of the current year.

Professional Development Bursary

Intent: To provide financial assistance to an AALT member who is enrolled in the Library and Information Technology or Library Operations Assistant distance education programs or a graduate of a recognized Library Technician program with their professional development efforts.
Eligibility: Must be a member in good standing. Bursary must be used to reimburse a program of study.
Deadline: December 31st of the current year.

Student Awards

Intent: To provide financial support for educational opportunities in the information field. Award includes $250 and a complimentary AALT Conference Registration.
Eligibility: Nominated by the instructors of the respective educational institution.
Form: Nomination is from the school.
Deadline: December 31st each year.
